Gli Alchimisti volevano manipolare la materia creando la Pietra filosofale, dalla quale ritenevano nascesse la Panacea, che aveva il potere di guarire ogni male e prolungare la vita. Volevano una medicina universale, e la trasmutazione dei metalli doveva essere la prova dell’efficacia di tale medicina.
Il nuovo pilastro della scienza, “Nulla si crea e nulla si distrugge”, diede la morte definitiva alle illusioni alchemiche.
Poi è nata la Psicologia, insieme di conoscenze filosofiche, letterarie e religiose sull’animo umano. La conoscenza si rigenera, si espande, e poi si rigenera ancora.
Oggi la Parapsicologia si espande tentando di rispondere ai bisogni, diffusi e forse comprensibili, di soprannaturale e di spazio esistenziale.
Il Paranormale è il bisogno di soprannaturale, la necessità di guardare a ciò che va oltre l’ordine della natura e delle leggi fisiche. Mostra la forte attrattiva verso tutto ciò che non è conoscibile attraverso le nostre capacità umane: siamo attratti dalle manifestazioni che sfuggono alle leggi naturali, come possono essere i miracoli. Il bisogno di dare più spazio all’esistenza include lo spiritismo, la magia, l’occultismo.
Il Volumetto, aspirando anche a qualcosa di scientifico, mostra alcuni lati inaspettati, guarda con nuovi occhi alcuni fenomeni che in passato erano relegati nel territorio delle fantasticherie, della pseudoscienza, delle scienze occulte. Entreremo anche nell’Esoterismo, che in genere riguarda le dottrine riservate agli adepti, che dovevano evitare che le verità occulte si disperdessero. Da loro prenderemo in prestito i Tarocchi, impareremo a leggere le carte di un gioco che un tempo era molto più di un passatempo.
